cycling Learning to Ride a Bike, Again

Riding With My Daughter

I am like most 30 year olds in saying that I used to love riding a bike when I was a child.  I would ride it for hours on end, up and down the neighborhoods and to the local grocery store to buy bubble gum and pop rocks.  I remember feeling like I was going so fast and that nobody could catch me.  There’s so much freedom in riding a bike as a child, having no cares in the world.  Then you get a little bit older and it’s not always cool to ride a bike anymore.  After that you go to college, get married, have kids and forget about the bike thing until you start to buy bikes for your own children.

tasi mom Hiking Is Fun With KidsI didn’t do very much hiking growing up.  I loved playing sports and participated in several competitive organized sports in my life, but I find the older I get the harder is is to stay active.  When you’re young it’s easy to find ways to play basketball, football or tennis on a regular basis.  Once you’re married with kids your days are much busier and you can’t just leave and play sports every day.  You can get a gym membership and drop your kids off at the child care there while you work out, but why not involve them in the exercise.

pizza 300x190 Food On A Budget

Homemade Pizza

As we all know, the economy is not doing so hot right now.  Jobs are scarce, the cost of living is high and many of us are struggling to make it each day.  We have tried to cut our expenses wherever possible, including my husband riding his bike to work and making whatever food I can from scratch.  Eating out really adds up so I’ve been trying to come up with meals that are inexpensive and healthy, but still taste good.  My favorite new meals are home made pizza and lentil soup.

tasi reading books on bed1 300x225 Early Literacy for Your ChildAll of us want our children to be smart and do well in life.  Nobody wants their children to be unhappy.  What can we do as parents to help with this?  I was fortunate enough to have parents who really valued education and always encouraged us to read and study hard.  They helped us prepare ourselves to go to college and find careers that fit our own personalities.  My mother was a teacher herself and taught an academic preschool in our basement most of my growing up years.  I worked hard an was able to get an academic scholarship for school and attained a bachelor’s degree in teaching.

gps Why GPS Is Cool For Moms

I Love GPS

I am a thirty year old mom of a toddler and am officially out of the “cool” phase of my life.  I think I was cool at one point in time, but have officially put that title to rest in exchange for new titles like “mom”, “nurse”, “cook” and “portable jungle gym.”  Yes, there are those moms that can still pass for high schoolers, but I am not that mom.  I prefer no makeup, sweats and a t-shirt and my hair in a pony tail.  I like to wear comfortable and low maintenance clothes so I can take my toddler on hikes, walks, bike rides, to the zoo and wherever we want to go each day.

baby crib The Bassinett Vs. Crib DebateYou find out you’re pregnant and everything in  your world starts to change, especially  your waste line.  You start to think about things like car seats, diaper pales and strollers.  Many people try to find out if they’re having a boy or girl so they can decorate the nursery and buy a bunch of tiny clothes.  You spend hours putting together the nursery just the way you want, trying to envision what it will look like with an actual baby in there.  One thing you didn’t anticipate, besides the amount of heart burn you would experience, is the amount of choices you have for cribs, changing tables and decorations.

green toys Green Gifts For Kids

Wooden Toys Really Last

Do you remember when you were young and you used to get one, maybe two toys for your birthday and Christmas?  You played with that one toy day in and day out until it finally had to be thrown away.  In those days toys were made of wood, cloth or metal, and were built to last for years.  Most toys I find these days are cheaply made from plastic or paper and barely last more than a week.  We’ve slowly turned into a community that accepts disposable toys without thinking of the consequences it may cause to the earth.

Cake of Love

Cake of Love

I love to bake and cook, especially for special occasions.  I think making something from scratch for the ones you love lets them know how much you care, and it’s a good time to be creative or try something new.  Before you know it, Valentine’s Day will be here and it’s your chance to show some extra love for that special someone.  Why not surprise him or her with a home cooked meal made from the heart?  That’s what I did a few years back and it was so much fun!!

bamboo Sending Not So Boring Flowers

Beautiful Bamboo

I think roses are as beautiful as the next person, but they are not my favorite type of flower.  There are so many flowers to choose from, it’s a shame to never try something new.  I told my husband when we were first married that I was fine with him never buying me flowers; I could easily use that money for something else.  Occasionally he’s surprised me with some and he always puts a lot of thought into it.  He usually chooses flowers that are in season or ones that look unique in some way.  He knows me well.

chocolate pearl Unique Jewelry Gifts

Chocolate Pearl

I’ve never been the type to wear a lot of jewelry, but I do like finding unique pieces that show creativity and beauty.  My wedding ring is very simple and classic and I’ve never found anyone else who has a ring like it.  There are so many more types to choose from these days it’s hard to keep up with them.  For instance, did you know they have chocolate pearls?  I saw them for the first time today.  I really like how they look more down to earth and simple.
