‘Cell Phones’ Posts
As a mother, my cell phone is part of my entourage, it goes with me wherever I go. I use it to keep in touch with my sister, my best friend, and my husband. The obvious reason for me to carry a phone is in case of an emergency. I can call for help. There are so many reasons to carry a phone.
On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper made the first analogue mobile phone. In 1979 Japan launched the first 1G network. Within five years, the NTT network had been expanded to cover the whole population of Japan. In the 1990s, the 2G mobile phone systems emerged. These used digital instead of analog transmission. The rise in mobile phone usage as a result of 2G was explosive. This is the time that we began to see prepaid mobile phones. As the use of 2G phones became more widespread and people began to utilize mobile phones in their daily lives, it became clear that demand for data services (such as access to the internet) was growing. By the end of 2007 there were 295 Million subscribers on 3G networks worldwide, which reflected 9% of the total worldwide subscriber base. Now there are 4G networks available and who knows where cell phones are headed next. In 2002 15% of the world population used cell phones. In 2009 60% of the world population used cell phones. In 2010 there were 6.9 billion people in the world and over 5 billion cell phone users. Many countries even reported over 100% cell phone usage. There were actually more cell phones in use than there were people. With the rise of cell phone usage, we also see the rise of cell phone accessories to decorate, protect or personalize our phones.
I am on the hunt, again, for a new cell phone plan. Is it just me or does is it seem like an eternal search for a good deal! Is it really that hard to find a plan that doesn’t drop calls frequently, is affordable, no activation fees, a manageable contract or better yet…no contract. These are some of the things that I have such a hard time dealing with, not to mention the search itself! It takes a long time to go through 20 websites looking for a deal and then the time and frustration of having to talk with the sales reps in the mall kiosks. It’s enough to discourage anyone!
