Emergency Kit
This time of year comes with a lot of great times with family and friends. Sadly this time of year tends to bring a lot of weather problems also. Anything from Blizzards, Snow Storms, Flooding, Hurricanes, Ice Storms, and Power Outages. NOW is the time to be prepared for the unexpected.
I am not a fan of greeting cards. I find them cheesy, boring and impersonal. Every once in a while I find a card that makes me laugh, but this is by far the exception to the rule. I’m sure the people who make cards do their best, but it’s never as good as someone making a card from scratch or writing their own poem. I know some people think that “professionals” can say it better than they can, but I would rather hear what my friend really has to say. Because of this, I never give cards to friends or family members unless I write them all myself. My husband, on the other hand, was raised to give cards to anyone and everyone for all necessary occasions. Because of this, we send the appropriate cards to his family members on their birthdays, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day and Christmas. They act as if they really enjoy them, but I’m not so sure. It seems a little too monotonous for my taste. There is one company I just found that may completely ruin my current theory on this.
We all have those people in our lives that are impossible to shop for. These people usually fall into one of three categories: 1) They have enough money to buy whatever they want 2) They are very picky and never like what you get them 3) They intend to use what you give them, but never find the time to do so. I have friends that fall into all of these categories and I’ve tried different techniques throughout the years with some success. For some, I took the time to make home made gifts personalized just for them. For others I went the easy route and bought gift cards, but I don’t know if they were ever used. In my search to find other solutions, I found a website that offers something that I am really excited about.
I met my husband when I was just 20 years old and 9 short months later we were married. I finished college, we bought a house, got our first dog and had two children. This year we will hit our 12 year wedding anniversary and I am lucky to report that we are still in love with each other. His birthday is coming up in a few months and once again I am trying to come up with something new that I think he’ll like. The longer we’re married, the harder it is for me to think of something original for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Luckily, we do have the internet now which helps me search for new ideas. In my searching I found a few good options for things he would like but wouldn’t ever think to get for himself.
Do you ever stop to think about why you celebrate certain holidays? Do you wonder why they started in the first place? Do you think about how the holiday traditions have changed over time? I never thought too much about it until this past year when my 4 year old daughter began asking more about holidays. She wants to know the reason behind everything and it forces me to learn more about things I’ve always just accepted. This year she kept asking over and over again if Santa were real and so my husband and I finally told her the truth about St. Nicholas, who he was, and how his legend transformed into the modern day story of Santa Claus. With each new holiday that comes, she is ready with new questions so I try to prepare myself for when they inevitably come.

Great Space Gifts
Since the first successful walk on the moon in 1969, children and adults alike all over the world have been fascinated by space. Children have played with miniature space shuttles, have pretended to fight aliens and have dreamed of becoming an astronaut themselves one day. I don’t know if it’s the idea that you can float, or the notion that space is endless, or because it’s so mysterious, but there’s just something about space that makes you wonder. Because I was a kid in the 80’s, I was raised knowing that we could land on the moon so it wasn’t a big deal to me. Although that could also have something to do with the fact that I’m a girl since boys tend to fantasize about space more than girls. Either way, no matter how many times we hear about space travel, it still catches our attention. Do you know anyone who you would consider to be a huge space fan?

Great Party Supplies
My mom was a school teacher for many years and loved it. While I was a teenager she taught preschool out of our house and had an entire classroom set up in our basement. Sometimes I would help her with set up or preparing art projects. I remember hearing her mention Oriental Trading Company, but I had no idea what it was or how she used it for her preschool. Right around the time my daughter turned one and I started thinking about birthday parties to throw for her, I found the Oriental Trading Company online and realized how cool it really was.
It seems like the hardest people to shop for are the men in our lives, Husbands, Brothers, Fathers, Grandpas. When asked what they want, they don’t have an answer (or it is lame, like a pair of socks or a tie). They seem to have everything and what can you get someone who has everything?
Well I did a little research to find some ideas and shops that could be your answer to this very dilemma.
One of the best ways to save money throughout the year is to shop for the holidays AFTER the holidays. If you want to get great Christmas decorations, no time is better than right after Christmas! If you want to get New Year Party supplies, buy right after New Years. Stock up now for next year’s events and you’ll save so much!

holiday sweet treats
Deck the halls with yummy sweet treats, fa la la la la la la la la. Tis the time to fill the kitchen fa la la la la la la la la. Of all the things I love most about the holiday season, one of the best is enjoying warm things to eat with people that you love. I remember fondly drinking my mom’s home made hot chocolate and peanut butter popcorn while watching movies at night. There’s just something about eating great food with family members when it’s cold outside. I am now the mom and get the chance to make sweet memories for my child.
