Holiday CookingWhen you think of holidays, what do you think of? I know some of the first words that come to my mind are: Family, Presents, Friends, Parties, Snow, and the best of all ….the FOOD. Between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and new Years there are plenty of amazing food you tend to only cook during the holidays.

If you are like me, I like to try a new recipe to share with loved ones especially around this time of year. A great resource site to refer to for ideas is Cooking.com. They have thousands of various recipes available at your finger tips with step by step directions. I liked how Cooking.com is very user friendly and you can  navigate through their site easily.

halloween pumpkinOne of my favorite fall traditions is decorating pumpkins. This would involve a lot of kids around the dining room table, with big knives, and ALOT of mess. How times change.
My sister this year took a different route that involved no knives and virtually no mess.

She decided to use plastic face pieces that she purchased at a craft store similar to Joann’s. As a family they still all came to the dining room table and they all chose their parts and items they would like to use for their pumpkins. This is something so simple but gives people the ability to really let their personality show with their pumpkin. If it is a girly rockstar with a mohawk, fake eyelashes and bright lipstick. Or an old grandmother with a scarf, hat and glasses. And for little ones, it gives them the chance to do the decorating by themselves without the worry of getting injured.  You are able to get all of these items at places like Joann’s. The possibilities are endless. And the best part, is at the end of Halloween, most of the items you can save and reuse them year to year.

Holiday goodies for less!

I remember when I was young, I would get stuck on infomercials for hours watching in anticipation to see what great deals would come.  I then would bother my mom trying to get her to take advantage of those deals offered by HSN.  Now there is a wonderful website for us to refer to so I NEVER have to watch an infomercial again.   And I can conveniently shop when I want.

I really love St. Patrick’s Day.  I’m serious.  What is not to love about it?  You get to wear green, which happens to be my favorite color, you eat yummy comfort food, which all semi-normal people like, and get to watch fun movies about leprechauns and magic.  Growing up my mom would turn everything green for breakfast, including our milk, pancakes and whatever else she could think of.  So much fun!  I was thinking about how it today and remembered a merchant I have that would be perfect for great St. Patrick’s Day ideas.

Are you the kind of person who likes to throw a party?  Do you usually volunteer to host things for your friends?  Or are you someone who shy’s away from being the center of attention?  I think I fall into the first category most of the time and end up being the one organizing get togethers and parties.  I enjoy creating western theme party2 300x236 Throwing Great Partiesan atmosphere where people can hang out and enjoy themselves.  I also love creating events that are well organized and run smoothly to eliminate any stress that may arise.  I like to have everything planned out in advance so that during the party I can just enjoy being with friends and family.  I recently threw a birthday party for my three year old and it was so much fun.  We did a polka dot theme and had decoration, games, activities and a cake revolving around polka dots.  I spent a good deal of time beforehand making everything so that it would run smoothly and I was really happy with the results.  However, some people can use a little more help in the preparation stage to ease stress along the way.
