Eat Well Without Spending More

brooke Friday, July 10th, 2015
Most of us want to be healthy. I mean, who wouldn’t? Health is wealth. And with the rise of every disease imaginable, it is no surprise that people are watching their health and nutrition more these days.
Eating well is a basic to having good health. What we put in our mouths is a huge and important factor that will determine whether we enjoy good health or suffer from a poor one.
Not only that but eating well means cutting back on unnecessary extra weight. Many people think that to have a good body they need to starve themselves and stick on diets that do more harm than good in the long run. But, most of the time it is as simple as eating the right kinds of foods – more fruits and vegetables and less processed ones.
Here are some tips so you can start eating well without breaking the bank;
1. Take Advantage of Weekends – this is a great time to really give more time to your cooking. Use weekends to prepare your meals and prepare a veggie based meal without any meat. Weekend is a great time because you are not in a hurry and you can have all the time you want. You’ll also find that this is more cost efficient and that veggie meals are actually less expensive compared to meals with meat.
2. Pack your Meals – fastfoods are not only unhealthy but also expensive as compared to homecook meals. Schedule your time and plan what you will cook for the entire week. Make time to prepare these meals and pack them to work or to school so that you won’t have to buy from a resto or worst go to a fastfood store.
3. Peanuts for Snacks – peanuts are definitely one of the healthiest and easiest to prepare snacks you can have for yourself and your family. They cut your risk for cardiovascular diseases. A handful of peanut is full of nutritrion and can give you that extra energy and mind boost that you need. Steer away from potato chips and junk foods that are not only more expensive but are also filled with ingredients that can harm your body in the long run.
4. Veggie Salad for Lunch – you should also try having a vegetable salad for lunch. They’re not only easy to prepare and bring but they are super good and healthy for you. You will surely notice a difference in your energy when you eat salads for lunch instead of foods that are difficult to digest, expensive and hard on your digestion.

With all the bills you have to pay, it really is such great news if you can save big bucks every chance you get. The money you save can be spent on other important expenses, like paying the bills, a little r & r perhaps, or putting it in your personal savings to be spent on emergencies or for the future. Each one of us has devised fool proof ways on how to save money, but the question is are you really saving money with your money saving methods or are these methods only costing you more money?
Here are a few popular money saving tips that will one get you to spend more money instead of saving those precious bucks:
Buying Items in Bigger Sizes
If you are bound to use the product numerous times, like the staples at home or the cupboard, like bottles of shampoos, bags of coffee and the likes, getting the bigger package which should get you covered for a longer period of time will really be a best practice. However, if you will only use the product a few times, and you are not bound to consume the entire tub, like a bottle of glue and spray paint you are only using for a single school project, then it will do you a lot of good to just buy the smaller size. Even if you think you can save more if you buy the bigger tube which only costs a few more dollars than the small packaging, you will only end up wasting the couple of dollars you thought you saved if you will only end up not using the entire contents.
Shopping During Sale
Yes, it is very easy to assume you will save a considerable amount of money during huge sale events in your local malls or favorite shops, but in reality it is costing you more money to go to these mall wide sales than you actually thought. If you have a list of stuff to buy and you have the discipline and self control to stick to your shopping list even in the midst of all the big SALE sign, then good for you. But if you simply cannot resist those signs, and you know you will end up succumbing to a number of them, then it will really be best to sit those big sale out. You thought you were saving more money buying stuff at discounted price but if you will end up splurging on items you do not really need and will only end up gathering dust in your closet or storage then you will only waste a good amount of money instead of saving big bucks.
Buying the Cheaper Alternative
It may seem like it is costing you more money if you opt for expensive items like shoes, or clothes, or home appliance but in the long run you will realize that these expensive purchases, which are expected to come in good quality, will save you a substantial amount of money, instead of buying a cheaper pair of shoes which you will have to replace sooner.

Little Moves You can Do to Improve your Financial Situation and Save Money
These days, saving money is a challenge. When you go out, there are many temptations to spend money even on unimportant things. We think these things could buy us happiness only to find that such kind of happiness is only temporary. Then, we only want and crave for more.
The never ending cycle of making and spending money goes on and on in our lives, until we make a decision to stop. When we learn to evaluate our spending habits and our attitude towards money and how the little expenses adds up, we begin to realize that there’s so much more we can do to keep our hard earned money.
1. Do the math – Before spending money on anything, you must know how many hours, days, weeks and months you need to work in order to be able to afford buying it. Let’s say you’re earning $15 per hour and work 5 hours a day. And let’s say you wanna buy an expensive scarf that costs $2,500. Before you let your impulsiveness take you, calculate how many days you would need to work to come up with the $2,500. That means that if you decide to buy it, you would need to work around 33 days. Do you really think its a good idea to spend all your month’s worth of paycheck for that expensive scarf that you think would give you a fashion edge over your friends? Is it all worth it? Doing the math and doing your calculations will help you put things into perspective and help you spend your money only on things you can afford.
2. Watch less television – Now, television can be very time consuming. You sit there and don’t realize that your time is drifting. Before you know it, you have spent 2 hours just sitting there, gazing your eyes on the television show and doing nothing. Watching television is not only unproductive but its also a waste of previous time you can spend doing more important things, or making money. Watching less tv also helps you cut back on electrical bills.
3. Do not buy your gifts – Yes, you heard it! You’ll most likely save more by making your own gifts instead of just buying them from the store. If you are good with arts and crafts and have plenty of time, it is really better to personalize and make your own gifts for your friends and loved ones, especially in important holidays like Christmas. Instead of buying and giving expensive gifts, give less expensive items such as cookies, candles, candies, soaps etc.
4. Sew your own clothes – If you know how to sew, it is certainly a perfect idea to make use of it by making your own clothes. You only have to buy the fabric and you can buy inexpensive ones from the shop then make your own designs. This is a great idea especially if you have small kids. Children’s clothes can be very expensive these days and there’s no better way to save on them but to make your own. If you don’t know how to sew yet, you can attend sewing classes to learn the basics then you can set out on your own. Who knows this even have the possibility of turning into a homebased business?
5. Stop spending huge for the sake of entertaining your kids – Too many parents these days spend so little time with their children and to make up for the guilt spend tons of money entertaining them. This can be in the form of buying them expensive toys, clothing and experiences. You have to stop. This is a surefire way to waste your money as children will never find contentment and satisfaction in things. All they want the most is your time and you need to give them exactly what they want.
6. Never go out to the store without a list of things to buy – In other words, don’t go shopping without a clear idea of what you will be buying. Most people go out window shopping and then just make the decision of what to buy when they are already in the store. This will not help you save on cash. Instead, you’ll end up buying more unnecessary items and paying for more. So, make sure you have a list and most of all, be sure to follow through and stick to that list as much as possible. Never buy something that’s not on the list, unless you have forgotten something which is extremely important.
7. Put things you want to buy in a 30 day waiting list before deciding to buy it – You might have heard of this money saving technique many times but more often than not, very few of you actually do it. This technique is my favorite because it helps me clear my mind and rethink things instead of giving in to my buying impulses. In many instances, you’ll end up not buying these things because you have had enough time to think things through and in most cases, you don’t really need the thing.
8. Pay attention to your health – Most people wake up in the hospital one day without realizing what they’ve done to become ill. But we all know that disease do not just happen in one day, in most instances. They are an accumulation of unhealthy habits that we fail to pay attention to. Most of us, don’t take charge of our health until we are sick. Paying attention to our health is very important. Health is wealth. If you don’t have it, you won’t have the ability to enjoy life and to make more money. So, take care of your health. Medical expenses can affect your budget and financial situation greatly.

This happens on holidays, occassions and instances like Black Friday. Also, buying items in bulk will help you save money. This is great especially if you have a huge family. Buying household items such as cleaning soaps, detergents, shampoos in bulk can give you lots of savings as compared to buying them per piece.

2. Through Wasted Food – What you don’t realize is that you are wasting tons of cash by throwing away those unwanted foods in your kitchen. Annually, America is losing billions of dollars in cash through these wasted food. So the next time you are thinking of throwing away food on the table that can still be eaten or utilized in some way, think of it as money which you are actually wasting.
3. Unhealthy Eating Habits – Many Americans love eating junk foods, fast foods such as burgers, spaghetti, fries and soda drinks. Without us knowing it, spending for these items add up. Try to add up the money you spend monthly on coffee alone or on unhealthy junk foods to keep your mouth preoccupied. Deliberately choosing to eat healthy will involve some attention and time on your part but the long term rewards and benefits will really do you so much. Not only will it allow you to save on medical expenses but it will also allow you to enjoy more years of health and vitality and more time which you can use to generate more cash or improve your status.
4. Speedy Delivery of purchased items – In most cases, we do not really need a speedy delivery servie for the items we purchase but we opt for them just because we can’t be patient enough. We can’t wait for more days to see and get our hands on our purchased items and so we end up paying for higher shipping fees.
5. Designer Clothing and Items for our Children – Many parents want their children to look their best all the time and so they end up buying expensive clothing and items for them to wear. What we don’t realize is that children quickly grow and they outgrow their clothes very quickly. Whether it be a dress, or a shirt or a pair of shoes, these clothings will never really be used for too long by your kids because they are growing creatures. And they grow very fast. So, it is always better to be practical when it comes to this.

The Easter break is finally here and the children have just taken a break from school. For most moms, it will be the time to take a breather from all the school related expenses, but for some it is also the time to shell out money for activities the children might want to participate in while they have enough free time in their hands. Music or swimming lessons, as well as other interesting activities, may be a little bit expensive, but here are a few things you might want to bear in mind so you can scrimp this Easter break:
Bring Your Children to the local Library
If you raised your children to be book lovers, nothing will thrill them most than the sight of many books and there is no perfect place to experience exactly that than in the library. Encourage them to get their own library card so they can go on and borrow as many books as they can manage to read over the spring break. Borrow storybooks and activity books which you can all read at home. This will spell endless hours of fun and entertainment for you and the kiddos and you do not even have to break the bank! For bigger children, you can even encourage them to make a very informal book report of the books they have finished reading. That way, you are not only nurturing their love for reading but also their love for writing and learning, too!
Go to the Park
The nice weather is also the perfect opportunity to spend some time and explore outdoors. Bring the children to the park, pack a couple of toys they can play outside, like balls, bubbles and kites. Allow them to be curious and let them take photos of stuff they see around, like the clouds, the trees, or the insects. While you are at it, do not forget to bring some sandwiches and juices the children can snack on when they get tired of too much playing – an impromptu picnic! What could be better than that?
Encourage the children to help with the chores
Another thing to do this Easter break to make sure the children will be as productive and spend their time wisely instead of sitting in front of the television for hours on end, is to help in the household chores. Give them something easy enough for their little hands to do, like sorting the laundry and folding clean clothes, perhaps. Teach them to make the bed after getting up each morning or wash the dishes, the non breakable ones, when they are done eating. You can also ask them to help prepare snacks and simple dishes in the kitchen, too.
Play Board Games
Scrimp on electricity and batteries by unplugging your television and turning off those gadgets and game console and inspiring children to play board games. Whether they choose to play chess, scrabble, monopoly or any other board game they fancy, it will be one enjoyable and worthwhile way to spend their afternoons. Not only will they be enjoying the game, but they will also develop and enhance their critical thinking and vocabulary, depending on which board game they choose to play. Foster good and clean competition by giving a nice reward or gift for the winner of each board game.
Plan a Fun Easter Together
Allow the children to lend a hand in your Easter preparation. Let them help in preparing breakfast on Easter morning by fixing sandwiches and making juices or cutting simple fruits and vegetables to add to your breakfast feast. And since there will be more hands to do the work, you can probably skip buying ready-made Easter eggs and make those colorful eggs at home and color them with the kids. You can simply get several dozens of eggs and a handful of food coloring from the supermarket for your very own do-it-yourself egg coloring activities. To score additional savings, you can also buy candies and sweets in bulk and a couple of colorful paper bags. Ask the children to help you sort out the treats and prepare them in the bags, I am sure the little ones will really be delighted to be of help.
