Me and my Girl

Me and my Girl

What do think of when you hear the word Mom or Mother.  You probably think about your own mother and the relationship you have with her.  If  you are a mother yourself, you probably think about your kids and the relationship you have with them.  There are varying stories about the origins of Mother’s Day.  Some say it started as a day to honor Rhea the Mother of the Gods from ancient Greece.  Early Christians set aside the 4th Sunday of Lent to honor the mother of Christ and began calling it Mothering Sunday.  The Mother’s Day tradition in America came about as a result of women activists who helped work for peace after the Civil War and petitioned politicians and church leaders to create a day to honor mothers.  This eventually happened in 1914 when Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May to be in honor of mothers.  My question to you is, how do you like to celebrate Mother’s Day?

Send Mom On A Trip!

Send Mom On A Trip!

We all know we’re supposed to get out mothers or wives something really nice for Mother’s Day, like flowers, a nice necklace or fun new kitchen gadget.  But what about something they really want?  Think about what an average day looks like for many mothers around the world.  They wake up, fix breakfast for everyone, make sure everyone gets off to school and work ok and then get to work themselves.  Whether it’s at home or in the corporate world, the job is still long and tiring.  At night they fix dinner for the family, help kids with homework, do the dishes, laundry and try to clean up the house.  After that’s done they figure out what other things they have to do in preparation for the next day, try to spend a few minutes of quality time with the spouse and go to bed exhausted from a long hard day.  So, what do you think would be a mom’s greatest wish for Mother’s Day?

441w Fragrance Gift for Mothers DayI recently discovered the ease of buying perfume on line this past March on my mother’s birthday.  She has long worn a perfume called Gem but she couldn’t find it anywhere.  She asked me on a recent trip to Paris to check the duty free shops for it.  After looking in several, one of the sales clerks informed me that it had in fact been discontinued.  So, I decided to look on line to see if I could still find some unopened bottles out there.  And, there were!  One of the places that sells it is Fragrance X.  I found others on Ebay, but the prices at Fragrance X were better and I knew it was a legitimate company so it would be safe and trustworthy.  I was afraid I’d get some skunky old bottle from someone on Ebay.  Anyway, the shipment of the perfume safely arrived at my mom’s house just in time for her birthday and it was perfect!  So, if you have a fragrance that your mom used to wear, or even one you loved but can’t find anymore, try looking online and check out Fragrance X on couponbuzz.com as well.

flowers 274x300 Mothers Day Gifts

My Mother Loves Pink Roses

When my husband was young and living with his parents, Mother’s Day was easy.  His siblings and he would simply buy their mother the latest and greatest exercise equipment or a trendy new work out video.  I am not sure if that is what she wanted, but that is what they always got her and she seemed happy about that. His mother now has a huge room filled with all the work out equipment that they got her when they were younger and more work out equipment that she has obtained over the years. Now that he is older he over thinks everything that he gets his mother for Mother’s Day.

Mom's Yoga Kit

Mom's Yoga Kit

Being a mother, I am aware of the approaching Mother’s Day holiday not to far away.  I try not to get my hopes up about what my husband and daughter will do because I know they love me and appreciate what I do.  However, I won’t complain if they do something really special or thoughtful for me.  With this in mind, I find myself seeing possible Mother’s Day gifts from several of the merchants that I am the guide for.  One place that has a lot of great gift options is Cooking.com.  I know, some moms hate the idea of getting household items for gifts but I am not one of those people.  Anything that can help me with my day to day chores is a welcomed friend.

strong mother loveth Mothers Day giftsWell, Mother’s Day is fast approaching and we are once again wondering what to get our Mother’s.  And, in this economy, we can’t afford to splurge like we would like to and show our moms how much we appreciate them. But, I just added a bunch of coupons to the Buy.com page at couponbuzz.com.  And, if you can’t find a gift for your mom at Buy.com, I don’t know what to tell you!  There is jewelry, clothes, electronics to bring her up to the current decade, home appliances, music and movies, kitchen stuff, home decorations, organization, bags and purses, travel items, you name it, they have it.  Right now there are general coupons for saving $5 or $10 on your purchases of $50 or $100, and then there are department coupons for specific stores.  And, to me, every little bit helps.  If it saves me a trip to 10 stores to just be able to shop online at one store with that much selection, it is worth it!  Many of the bigger items do offer free shipping as well.
