Fun at the Beach!
I don’t know about you, but it seems like spring is taking a while to show up and that makes summer seem even farther away. Right around this time of year I start to get really antsy for bike rides, hikes, wearing flip flops and feeling the warm sun on my face. I know summer will be here in a few short months, but at this moment in time, it feels like that day will never come. So, what’s a girl to do with this type of a quandary? I think the only rational response is to sneak in a mini spring vacation that will give you just enough incentive to hold out a little longer until summer arrives.
So I have been looking for a sunhat in preparation for this summer. I am almost 30 years old with many days of my life spent in the great outdoors. In a recent mirror examination I found sun spots! Well, I guess it is to be expected. The protection of my skin, especially of my face, I find very important. So that is how I started out on this quest to find an sun hat that is actually stylish and hip! Here is what I found…
Man, do I wish the internet was as popular and accessible back when I was a student in college, and even a teacher! It’s amazing how quickly things have changed. Heck, I didn’t even have email until my senior year in college, and certainly no internet browsing until my later 20’s. Anyway, it is great to see how many places online now offer deals for students and teachers.
I found one software company, Adobe, which offers special discounts on all of their software for educators. Things like Photoshop, Acrobat, and Creative Suite. These are awesome tools that everyone uses and they offer them up to 80% off if you can provide proof that you are a student or faculty member.
With the stresses of work, bills, raising a family, maintaining a relationship with a spouse, and everything in between at the end of the day…sometimes it is amazing at I am still breathing. There seem to so many different tasks to be done. With so many little problems here and there that are dynamic and complicated, my mind has no time to relax. My mind feels like a muscle flexing nonstop all day. It is time for a Vacation!
When I was young we never had any money to go on trips or vacations. The only thing we did was load up
in our ten passenger van and drive from Oregon to Utah every summer to
visit our cousins. The trip was long, but we tried to have fun with it along the way. I remember dropping oreos out the back windows to see how long they would roll before exploding. We also got really good at making up dances with our feet on the ceiling. Ya, this was before seat belts were strictly enforced. When I got married my husband learned that I had never been to Disneyland so he promised to take me there. About six months after we got married we drove to California and I got to experience Disneyland for the first time. It was so much fun being there with just my husband acting like kids. My daughter however didn’t have to wait until she was in her twenties to go to Disneyland.
There you are sitting at home with dishes to do, floors to be swept and vacuumed, laundry to do, dinner to fix, children to bathe and bills to be paid. You spend your days completing all the necessary tasks without complaint and try to make sure all your kids and husband are happy and healthy. You don’t have time to exercise as much as you would like, you don’t ever go shopping by yourself and rarely have quiet time to read a good book. Does any of this sound familiar? I think most moms love what they do, but often feel like by the time they give everything to their husband, children, other family members and neighbors, they have nothing left for themselves. I am lucky enough to have a group of friends who understand the need to get away from their normal responsibilities once in a while to relax and refuel the tank that is nearly empty. Now, onto the incriminating pictures I have displayed for the world to see….
I think a lot of people that have the goal of going on a cruise are intimidated by the thought of being a first time cruiser. Will you know how to get around? Would you have a good time? Is is a good value for the money? Let me tell you about the experiences my wife and I had as first time cruisers.
I have two wonderful dogs that I love very much. I’ve had them both since they were puppies and they are just like kids to me. They are indoor dogs and are very well trained and socialized. The only problem comes when I need to go out of town and can’t take them with me. We used to live near a lot of family that was willing to take care of them, but that’s not the case anymore. It’s hard to find someone willing to take care of two 115 pound dogs. We could have them go to dog kennels but they just don’t get that personal attention that we prefer. They also cost at least $20 per dog per night and that really adds up.
