The Brilliance of Layaway

Try it today

Try it today

Growing up in the nineties, I knew what the word layaway meant, but I never saw anyone actually use it. My parents were the type who either bought something when they needed it, or didn’t buy it at all. Some adults I knew would put things on credit cards, and then pay them off later. Unfortunately, there are negatives associated with both of these scenarios. With my parents, they often times bought things when they couldn’t afford them, or missed out on deals because they didn’t have enough money at the time. Those who bought things on credit ended up paying more for them than their upfront cost. Now that I’m adult, I see that layaway is the perfect answer to both of these scenarios.

College Football is in the Air!

miriam Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

college footballAlthough I love summer with all the traveling, swimming, camping and relaxing, I think I love fall just as much. Millions of kids, teenagers and college students return to school with high hopes of a great year. All of these events are fun and exciting, but it’s not what I love most about the fall. I absolutely love watching college football with friends, eating good food, and sharing in the excitement that inevitably follows.

suitcase 300x227 The Sisterhood of the Travelling CheapskateI love to travel. The only thing I love more than travelling is saving money when I travel! I swear that I account for half of the traffic on sites like,, and!  When I began travelling these tools were not around.  There were travel agencies or you could be brave and make your own accommodations.  The problem with doing it yourself was that you had never been to these places.  You didn’t know how the hotel was, what part of town was the best to visit, or what restaurants were a must-visit.  These days all you have to do is visit one of these web sites and type in your desired destination.  It’s like having access to a travel agency owned by millions of friends who have visited the location you want to visit and can recommend the best hotels, car rental companies, and beaches to visit.

Making Computers Personal Again

miriam Thursday, June 14th, 2012

When shopping for a new personal computer certain names keep popping up, names like Apple, HP, Toshiba, etc.  That’s for a reason.  They have proven themselves over decades with technological advances.  Every time a new technology has come along, these computer manufacturers have either been behind the new technology or at least adopted it very quickly.  These “bells & whistles” only get a reputation so far.  They have cemented their fan bases through reliability.
