Way Cute Back Pack

Way Cute Back Pack

Most of us want our homes to reflect our personality.  We pick things that we like and that say something about us.  My husband and I tried to do this with our first home.  We painted all the rooms different colors to give them personality.  We also decorated with items that you couldn’t find at IKEA or Walmart.  We found some stuff at garage sales, designed our own decorations or found great items online.  We have the same method of thinking when it comes to giving things to other people.  We want to give things that are original and have some personality or flare.  When it comes to birthday parties for my five year old daughter, we make something to give as the present.  Kids especially like things that are made just for them.  It gives them a well needed sense of ownership they crave so much.  Some people struggle to come up with ideas of what to make.  If you are one of these people, I have a few websites that can help you out.

Redocorate Today!

Redocorate Today!

Many of us have been hit by the current recession.  Some of us have lost jobs, others have lost homes and most of us have had to downsize our budget in some way.  Because of this, a lot of people who would like to sell their homes are unable to, but would still like a change.  The only other option is to redecorate the home you already have.  Luckily, with all the online stores available now, the choices you have are just about endless.

Holiday goodies for less!

I remember when I was young, I would get stuck on infomercials for hours watching in anticipation to see what great deals would come.  I then would bother my mom trying to get her to take advantage of those deals offered by HSN.  Now there is a wonderful website for us to refer to so I NEVER have to watch an infomercial again.   And I can conveniently shop when I want.

murals your way Murals Your Way is Incredible! When my husband and I bought our first house we were so excited to decorate it with our own style and flair.  Room by room, we went through and re-did every wall color and changed out all the carpets.  It took a while because we didn’t have very much money and did it when we could, for as cheap as we could.  However, when it was all done, we loved it!  We have since sold that house and are now renting, so we don’t have as much freedom, but I’m still on the look out for new decorating ideas.

I have a very active and stubborn three year old that likes to give me a run for my money.  My husband works and goes to school full time so he’s not home very much.  That leaves a lot of hours in the day that I country woman1 A Magazine for Regular Womenhave alone with my daughter.  Most of the time we fill the days with activities, errands, play dates and other stuff, but some days we don’t have very much to do and I really need a break from her.  There is a store nearby that has an on site playland for kids where I can drop her off for up to an hour while I do my shopping.  I do a good deal of shopping there for this reason, but some days, I have to admit, I go there just for the free baby sitting.  I drop her off, go find a good magazine and sit in the furniture section reading until the hour is up.  I know it’s cheating, but I do give that store a lot of business so I figure it’s ok.

pirate1 177x300 Birthdays on a Budget?mermaid 265x300 Birthdays on a Budget? So my daughter is turning 4 soon and wanted to have a Mermaid party. The major complication with that is that most of her friends from school, the neighborhood and her cousins are all boys. How do you have a boy Mermaid Party?

After much thought and trial and error we came up with the idea of a mermaid & pirate party. In the context of Peter Pan and a few of the films they go hand in hand. With the main theme in mind, my next great challenge was creating fun activities and decorations that might be fitting for these kids… on a TIGHT BUDGET.

Bonus Room

When my husband and I bought our first house we were so excited to decorate it, but we didn’t have very much money.  Everything we had went into paying for the mortgage and other bills.  We knew we would have to be very crafty and creative to give our house style with little or no money.  We decided themes that we wanted for each room and came up with colors.  The first big project we did was painting our bedroom red and spare room green.  The project took longer than we thought because one room had about 10 layers of wallpaper and paint alternating all over it so we had to put a whole new layer of mudd on every wall.

large living room 300x224 Very Large Small Places

Living Room

For as long as I can remember I have always liked organization and order.  Even though our house was fairly chaotic growing up, I kept my room fairly clean and uncluttered.  I liked to know where everything was so I could find it when I needed.  When I got married we lived in a cute little basement apartment and decorated our first home.  It wasn’t much, but it was ours.  I tried several different arrangements of the furniture until I found the one that seemed to make the room look biggest.  We bought our first home and couldn’t wait to design all 1500 square feet of it.
